Discipline - what is discipline?

People often confuse ‘discipline’ with ‘physical punishment’ but they are quite different. Discipline is about guiding children and helping them learn what is expected. They gradually learn how to control their own behaviour.

Children learn best when ‘good’ behaviour is encouraged and they feel safe and secure. You don’t need to physically punish children to teach them. The key is having a close relationship with your child as well as clear rules and realistic expectations.
